Training and Development

Our induction programme will ensure that you are well-equipped before you start your placements with us. You will then undertake a period of shadowing with a senior before you work on your own.

Our in-house training and development will ensure that you have a rewarding career in care as long as you are hardworking and passionate about providing a high quality service.

Our training and development manager will encourage you to undertake your SVQ’s and will assist you to obtain the necessary funding.

All candidates are required to undertake our induction training (regardless of previous experience or training). Candidates are also required to pass our MCQ test before they are deemed as trained.

Training is split in to Induction Training and Core Skills. 

Induction

Some of our induction training includes:

  • Health and Safety
  • Basic Food Hygiene
  • Protecting Vulnerable Groups
  • Moving and Handling
  • Infection Control
  • Roles & Responsibilities
  • Medication Training
  • Record Keeping

 

Core Skills

Candidates are required to undertake and complete the Core Skills training within 6 weeks of their start date.

Some core skills are:

  • Dementia Training
  • Promoting Continence
  • First Aid
  • Positive Behaviour Support
  • Equality and Diversity
  • All staff undertake yearly update training.

 

Supervisions
Our staff undergo supervisions on a regular basis and at least twice a year. They are also required to undergo an annual appraisal with their line manager.

SVQ
We actively encourage our staff to take up SVQ level 2 qualifications in care. Our training managers are responsible to ensure our staff have the opportunity to attain their SVQ.

 

Additional training includes some of the following:

  • Stroke awareness training
  • Parkinsons awareness training
  • Palliative care training
  • Multiple Sclerosis training
  • Huntington’s Disease
  • Diabetes Mellitus awareness training
  • Epilepsy awareness training

 

Staff are also required to undertake a period of shadowing with a senior team member before they are allowed to work independently with a service user.

All potential candidates are required to complete an application form and are required to attend a formal interview before they are offered a post with us. We take on board both experienced staff and people who are new to the care sector. Our interview process looks at a candidates aptitude and attitude towards care as they are interviewed on real life scenarios during the interview process.

Once a job has been offered , we ensure that candidates are able to provide 2 work references. Candidates are also checked against the Protecting Vulnerable Groups database (previously Disclosure Scotland).
